French Technology Counsel for International Companies

French Technology Counsel for International Companies

Deleporte Wentz Avocat advises international companies on French and EU technology, digital and data protection law.

Based in Paris, the firm assists technology providers, software and online service companies, as well as businesses deploying digital technologies in France.

The firm advises clients directly in English or French, from the initial assessment of a project through contract negotiations, regulatory compliance and, where necessary, pre-litigation or litigation before the French courts.

International experience combined with French technology law expertise

Bénédicte Deleporte, founding partner of Deleporte Wentz Avocat, has developed her practice both as a lawyer and as in-house counsel within international technology companies.

Before establishing the firm in 2007, she served as Legal Director EMEA for a US networking technology company, as General Counsel of a pan-European internet start-up based in Brussels and as Legal Director of a global e-commerce company.

She also managed the firm's Singapore office from 2014 to 2021.

Her academic background includes an LL.M. from the University of Iowa and a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University, in addition to her French law degrees.

This combination of private practice and in-house experience provides a practical understanding of the legal, operational and business issues faced by companies working across borders with French customers, suppliers, partners and regulators.

Supporting technology and digital projects in France

The firm advises international clients on French law and applicable EU regulatory requirements in connection with technology and digital projects.

This includes drafting, reviewing and negotiating software licensing, SaaS, cloud services, software development, outsourcing and other technology agreements, including contracts involving French and international counterparties.

The firm also advises on GDPR and data protection compliance, international data transfers, data processing agreements and the launch and deployment of digital services. Deleporte Wentz Avocat may also act as an external DPO.

For companies developing or deploying AI systems, the firm advises on the EU AI Act, data protection requirements and related contractual and regulatory issues.

Where a dispute arises, the firm assists clients during the pre-litigation phase and represents them before the French courts in IT, digital and commercial disputes.

Working directly with international legal and business teams

The firm regularly works with executives, in-house counsel and operational teams and is accustomed to the constraints of start-ups, SMEs and large corporations.

The firm works directly in English on contract negotiations, written legal advice, project meetings and legal training, in close cooperation with the client’s internal teams.

For international companies, the firm provides a practical interface between those teams and the requirements of French and EU law, while integrating with the work already handled internally.

Coordinating cross-border matters

When a project involves legal issues outside French or EU law, Deleporte Wentz Avocat can work with independent lawyers from its international network.

The firm's network currently includes lawyers in several European jurisdictions as well as the United States, Singapore, China and Hong Kong. The firm also maintains established relationships with independent law firms in Italy and California.

This approach enables the firm to coordinate the French aspects of a cross-border project while working alongside the client's own international counsel or local advisers.

When can we assist?

International companies typically require French technology counsel when they:

  • enter or expand on the French market,
  • negotiate technology agreements with French counterparties,
  • launch SaaS or digital services in France,
  • review GDPR or EU AI Act compliance,
  • deploy AI solutions subject to EU regulation, or
